The Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Business is a nationally recognised qualification that is suitable as an alternative to A-levels. These programmes aim to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, attitude and values required to have to work towards a successful career in business, enterprise and commerce. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-levels. You will take the 90-Credit Certificate in Year 1 and complete the Extended Diploma in Year 2.The programme is designed as a progression route to University or Higher Apprenticeship.
You can take a tailored Pathway towards further study or a career in Management, Finance, Marketing and Promotion or Business Law if you wish.
Who is the course suitable for?
If you want to keep your options open for either work, higher education or an apprenticeship, then this course may suit you well.
This course is suitable for academically capable learners and should not be viewed as an easier alternative to other qualifications because you are going to be trained by experienced professionals who have knowledge in the fields you may be interested in. We have high professional standards and expectations of our learners.
This course prepares you with skills and knowledge in a variety of topics that will prepare you for the next level of education, Apprenticeship or a job in a business-related job-role or enterprise. You will need to be prepared to attend college 4 days per week and attend blocks of work experience (gaining a total of 100 hours of work experience).
Topics include business management, finance and accounting, marketing and creative promotion, pitching for a new business, business law, HR and corporate social responsibility. You will study approximately 9 units per year.
Development of Maths and English
Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English will continue taking this subject until Grade C at least is achieved. The course includes Mathematics units at Level 3.
Employability Skills Development
Your study programme includes 1 hour per week of employability skills development which includes Careers Education, support and guidance on progression opportunities.
How will the course be taught?
You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced lecturers who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level.
Lectures, discussions, independent research and practical tasks.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations. Assessment is largely through coursework assignments, but there are some exams too.
Are there any additional costs?
Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.
What course can I do next?
You can progress onto Higher Education courses in a wide range of business-related subjects.

Fill in an application form and you will be invited for an information and interview session with one of the tutors.
The course is free if you are 16-18. If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you wish to begin your course, our Business or Accounting courses for adult learners may suit you better. Phone or complete an online enquiry and we will discuss this with you.
