Course Description

The CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

We have structured the units around four themes:

  • Theme 1: Health and well-being
  • Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
  • Theme 4: Professional development

Learners must achieve:

  • 27 mandatory units
  • 643 guided learning hours (GLH).

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. This qualification confers the licence to practise as an Early Years Educator

Who is the course suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners, either working or wishing to work in early year’s education and care. It is also suitable for those wishing to progress to higher education.

Course content

This course prepares you with skills and knowledge in a variety of topics that will prepare you for the next level of education or a job in Child Care. You will need to be prepared to attend college 3 days per week and attend work experience 2 days per week

Examples of units you will study are:

  • Theme 1: Health and well-being
  • Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
  • Theme 4: Professional development

You will study approximately 9 units per year and will have the opportunity to upgrade Maths and English GCSE subjects.

Development of Maths and English

We recommend that you also undertake GCSE in English and maths if you do not already hold grades C or ablove.

Employability Skills Development

Your study programme includes 1 hour per week of employability skills development which includes Careers Education, support and guidance on progression opportunities.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced Child Care professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level.

Lectures, discussions, independent research and practical tasks.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that you’re in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit- this course may be free!
