Course Description

If you are looking for a future within the plumbing industry then this is an essential starter course.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is ideal if you are thinking of working in the plumbing industry. You will gain the initial knowledge and skills to enable you to move to next level within the industry.

Course content

The basic skills and Knowledge involved in the Plumbing Industry. The qualification is covered within 5 units within these units you will learn about • Hot and cold water systems • Sanitation systems • Bending, jointing of different materials and components • How to work with others in the building service industry • Health and safety

Development of Maths and English

Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements.

At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C grade at GCSE level.

Employability Skills Development

Your study programme includes 1 hour per week of employability skills development which includes Careers Education, support and guidance on progression opportunities.

How will the course be taught?

This course is a basic understanding what is necessary in going into the Plumbing Industry. The lessons are between Theory and Practical, with end of unit assessments and Exams Lectures, discussions, independent research and practical tasks.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.

Course Fees

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that you’re in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit- this course may be free!
