Health and safety in industry. All aspects of the plumbing trade to level two standards. This will included Hot and Cold water supplies, Health and Safety as well as Central heating. The expert staff have years of working out within the industry, and have a great rapport with students
This will be achieved in theory lessons, in group practical and individual practical.
Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for people who have had experience/ Level 1 in the Plumbing industry, and would like to learn the Intermediate Hand skills and Theory behind the industry.
This course prepares you with skills and knowledge in a variety of topics that will prepare you for the next level of education in Plumbing and Heating. You will need to be prepared to attend college 3 days per week. Examples of units you will study are: Understand Health and Safety How to communicate with Others Understand Scientific principles Understand pipework fabrication processes and techniques Understand and apply domestic cold water systems Understand and apply domestic hot water systems Understand and apply domestic central heating water systems Understand and apply domestic above ground drainage systems Understand electrical systems
Development of Maths and English
Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements.
At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C grade at GCSE level.
Employability Skills Development
Your study programme includes 1 hour per week of employability skills development which includes Careers Education, support and guidance on progression opportunities.
How will the course be taught?
You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced Industry based professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level. Lectures, discussions, independent research and practical tasks.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.
Are there any additional costs?
Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.

This qualification covers a wide range of subjects required by someone aspiring to work in the plumbing industry and includes: how to organise resources within BSE domestic cold water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques domestic hot water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques domestic central heating system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques domestic sanitation system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques core gas safety principles.

How do I join the course?
Fill in an application form and you will be invited for a presentation and interview with one of the tutors.
If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that youre in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit- this course may be free!
