Course Description

This qualification will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships. It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning Apprenticeship.

Who is the course suitable for?

Anyone who is working in a role that supports pupils’ learning. Class room assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Mid-day Supervisor.

Course content

• Some of the units you will be covering are listed below • Child and young person development • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults • Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people • Help improve own and team practice in schools • Maintain and support relationships with children and young people • Support children and young people’s health and safety • Support children and young people’s positive behaviour • Support learning activities • Learners will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills

Development of Maths and English

Students who do not have English and maths at Grade C or above are encouraged to take these in addition to this course to enable progression to level 3.

Employability Skills Development

Your study programme includes 1 hour per week of employability skills development which includes Careers Education, support and guidance on progression opportunities.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced Health and Social Care professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level. Lectures, discussions, independent research and practical tasks.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.
