Course Description

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as an advanced hairdresser. Throughout this qualification you will monitor procedures to safely control work operations, provide hairdressing consultation services, creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques and promote additional services or products to clients.

Who is the course suitable for?

If you have completed levels 1 and 2 in hairdressing and have a job in a salon but are keen to progress to the advanced level of hairdressing then this is the right course for you.

Course content

This course prepares you with skills and knowledge in a variety of topics that will prepare you for the next level of education or a job a salon. You will need to be prepared to attend college 3 days per week and attend work experience in an external environment. You will also be required to attend college for some Saturdays. Creatively style and dress hair Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques Creatively colour and lighten hair Provide client consultation services

Optional - from this group you'll need to cover a minimum of 2 units and earn a minimum of 25 credits. Fulfil salon reception duties Provide a variety of relaxing services Hair colour correction services Provide creative hair extension services Create a variety of permed effects Develop, enhance and evaluate your creative hairdressing skills Provide specialist hair and scalp treatments Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of promotional activities Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business Cut men's hairstyles

Development of Maths and English

Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements.

At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C grade at GCSE level.

Employability Skills Development

Employability skills are embedded into your lessons through working in a realistic working environment.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced hairdressing professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level. Lectures, discussions, independent research, practical assessments, assignments and exams.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings. You are required to wear a uniform and it is useful to have your own equipment for practice at home

You can progress onto Higher Education courses applying to study further into fields such as:

Course Fees

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that you’re in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit- this course may be free!
