LEVEL 2 BEAUTY THERAPY
The Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies (QCF) is a technical level qualification that provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a beauty therapist. This qualification is based on Habia National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is recognised by the UK's largest beauty therapy trade body/professional association i.e. The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and also the UK's second largest association representing beauty therapy employers; the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a beauty therapist.
This qualification has specifically been designed for the 16-19 age group and builds on existing knowledge and understanding of beauty therapy gained at Level 2, enabling learners to expand the scope of their technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a beauty therapist.
The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist including health and safety, client care and communication, electrical face and body treatments, and body massage. These units are all mandatory.
Learners also have the opportunity to undertake optional units to enhance their range of practical skills such as applying individual semi-permanent eyelash extensions, intimate waxing for male and female clients, micro-dermabrasion skin treatments, self tanning, electrical epilation, stone therapy, massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils and Indian head massage. This qualification is comprised of five mandatory units and in order to be awarded the qualification, learners must also gain a minimum of 8 credits from units in the optional group.
Who is the course suitable for?
If you are keen to explore the advanced level of beauty therapy and enhance your employability then this course is the right one for you.
This qualification will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as an advanced beauty therapist.
Your study programme will be made up of the Beauty course, English, Maths, Tutorials and Work Experience.
The Level 3 beauty programme consists of the following Mandatory units:
- Provide body electrical treatments
- Provide facial electrical treatments
- Provide body massage treatments
- Provide electrical epilation treatments
- Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities and an optional unit
Development of Maths and English
Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements.
At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C grade at GCSE level.
Employability Skills Development
All students will be required to attend work experience in an external environment once a week and attend SOME Saturday sessions in college for work based learning sessions
How will the course be taught?
You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced Beauty Therapy professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress practically and theoretically through continual assessment and work experience.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations. Your work will be tracked using ProMonitor which you will also be able to monitor.
Are there any additional costs?
Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement.
You will need to purchase the course tunic and we strongly recommend that you purchase the Level 2 beauty kit, you will only become proficient through practice and this will enable you to practice at home. We may also request contributions to trips and outings such as Professional Beauty 2015 at London Excel.

Fill in an application form and you will be invited for a presentation and interview with one of the tutors.
