The Level 2 Diploma in Barbering (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed men's hairdresser. This qualification is based on the barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading barbering association (British Barbering Association - BBA) and professional hairdressing body (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior men's hairdresser.
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing/barbering and/or a successful skills test and interview.
Who is the course suitable for?
This qualification allows learners to gather evidence in a realistic working environment or real working environment without the need for fee paying clients. Learners on completion of this qualification will become a qualified junior men's hairdresser. The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering (QCF) requires learners to work in a commercial hairdressing salon whereby assessments must be carried out on real paying clients in line with commercial service times; learners on completion will become a qualified junior barber.

Development of Maths and English
Maths and English will be embedded into each lesson to develop your skills and you will be required to attend maths and English and tutorial lessons and engage in exams in these subjects.
Employability Skills Development
You will be provided with information on the latest trends and developments in the hair industry. And employability skills will be embedded within the course while working within a realistic working environment.
How will the course be taught?
You will be taught by a qualified and experienced hairdressers/barbers who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to deliver the course content. Once delivered you will work on fellow students and when competent progress onto clients for your practical assessments. You will also be required to complete a range of theory questions and complete a multiple choice test paper.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with them on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.
Are there any additional costs?
A uniform is required at approximately £50 and a kit of approximately £150
What course can I do next?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a graduate State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council.
Career opportunities as a junior men's hairdresser exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Commercial barbershops/salons

- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
