The VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering for learners seeking a career as an employed /or self-employed junior barber.
Who is the course suitable for?
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing/barbering
This course builds upon prior knowledge gained from level 1 hairdressing/barbering. The units covered are - cut mens hair using basic techniques, colour and lighten men's hair, advise and consult with clients, shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, develop and maintain your effectiveness at work, create basic outlines and detailing in hair, cut facial hair to shape.
Development of Maths and English
Students who have not yet achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements. At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D/3 in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C/4 grade at GCSE level.
Employability Skills Development
Your lessons are held in our industry standard salons and work experience is essential. You will work on real clients in our commercial salon.
How will the course be taught?
You will be taught by a qualified and experienced hairdressers/barbers who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to deliver the course content. Once delivered you will work on fellow students and when competent progress onto clients for your practical assessments. You will also be required to complete a range of theory questions and complete a multiple choice test papers.
How will I know how well I am doing?
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their learners on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.
Are there any additional costs?
Full uniform, shoes, kit and educational trips.
What course can I do next?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a graduate State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council and can progress into employment.
