Course Description

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards (NOS).

This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a hairdresser. Throughout this qualification you will ensure responsibility to reduce risks to health and safety, give customers a positive impression, advise and consult with clients, shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, change hair colour, cut hair using basic techniques, style and finish hair and set and dress hair.

You will be supervised by technical staff and assessed on your occupational competence.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course will run over 2 evenings and 1 day allowing it to fit into your work commitments. There will be theory based self-directed study timetabled to be done at home, if you would like to qualify quickly at level 2 hairdressing this is the course for you.

Development of Maths and English

Maths and English will be embedded into each lesson to develop your skills.

Employability Skills Development

You will be provided with information on the latest trends and developments in the industry. And employability skills will be embedded within the course while working within a realistic working environment.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced Hairdressing professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress through the course, including demonstrations, discussions, coaching, group work and practical activities.

Assessment techniques will include observed work, witness statements, written questions, oral questions, and assignments.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their tutees on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Coming to college is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to college and potentially to a local work placement. We do recommend a few good resources that you can choose to purchase if you wish. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.

A uniform is compulsory and a kit is advised to ensure practice is possible to keep up your skills.

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that youÂ’re in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit- this course may be free!
