A keen interest in the hair and beauty sector with a good standard of maths and English, aged 16-18 years old.

Course Description

This qualification is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the hair and beauty sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills. They are designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in hair and beauty or other related sectors.

Who is the course suitable for?

Those with a keen interest and commitment to the course and are aged between 16-18 years

Course content

There are 3 mandatory units which include Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, Presenting a professional image in a salon and Health and Safety in the Salon Environment worth 6 credits. On top of these are additional units worth 31 credits and include specialist hair & beauty units and employabilty skills

Development of Maths and English

Students who have not yet achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements. At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D/3 in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C/4 grade at GCSE level.

Employability Skills Development

You will be taught in industry standard salons with work experience in reception and a salon.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level. You will be assessed both practically and via assignments completed.

How will I know how well I am doing?

Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their learners on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, manage your workload and meet college expectations.

Are there any additional costs?

Full uniform, shoes and kit plus trips.

What course can I do next?

Progression to a level 1 course in either Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy
