The course will run on a Wednesday and you will be expected to have a placement within the care industry to carry out the practical tasks.

Are you interested in caring for people, particularly when they are vulnerable? Are you a caring, practical person who wishes to understand the theoretical basis behind care? Do you wish to enter health or social care provision in an advanced support worker role, Senior Support Worker, Assistant Practitioner or similar roles in Health and Social Care sectors? This course is aimed at people like you and is flexible with a range of modules to match participants' personal and professional development needs.

Course content

Stage One This provides foundation knowledge with modules in Graduate Skills, Work-Based Learning and Inter-professional Learning.

Stage Two This stage provides detailed knowledge with modules in Advanced Work-Based Learning and Research in Health and Social Care.

Special course features The design of this course is highly flexible in terms of the study pathways and qualification routes that it offers. Students have the option to study for the full foundation degree or the Certificate in Health and Social Care. Alternatively, they may study for individual modules.

Year One • Graduate skills Focus on skills such as referencing, reflective practice, essay writing.

• Work-based learning Focus on communication, problem-solving, Systems and principles of Health and Social Care.

• Interprofessional working You will learn what person-centred care is and how it is used with different clients and the roles of different agencies.

• Rights and Inclusion Focus on the rights and responsibilities to service user, inclusion and exclusion and challenging discrimination.

• Life Span Development You will explore biological and psychological changes over time.

Year Two • Advanced work based learning This module will examine care values and improving service, ethics, clinical governance and quality.

• Enhancing Health and Wellbeing The focus of this module will be health inequalities, health promotion and public health issues.

• Mental health awareness You will learn classification and diagnosis of Mental Health problems, how to engage service users, risk assessment and interventions

• Research in Health and Social Care This module is designed to assist students to explore the nature of research and its relationship to the development of knowledge, understanding and evidence.

• Community re-ablement Learning will centre on policy and legislation, re-ablement (enabling skills) professionalism, client-centred care and community environment. • Dignity in Dying You will examine issues of choice, individuality, privacy, caring for carers, care after death, cultural norms and difference in relation to dying and bereavement.
