You will need a level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area and 4 GCSE A*-C, including English and maths at grade C or above and be over 18 years old.
This course will help you develop the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding needed to apply for or further your career in the Sport, Health, Fitness, Exercise and Leisure Industry. The course is also suitable for people in a range of other job roles who are looking to move into a supervisory or management role or simply as a personal challenge. After completing the HNC there is the option to progress to the Level 5 HND in Sport (Health, Fitness & Exercise).
The course is taught by experienced industry professionals. There is a mix of theory and practical sessions.
Who is the course suitable for?
If you are looking to progress into the Sport, Health, Fitness & Exercise or Leisure Industry or wishing to further your career within the Sport, Health and Leisure sector.
You will study the four mandatory core units; Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise, Training and Fitness for Sport and Exercise, Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Wellbeing and Health Promotion. There are also four Specialist units that you will complete; Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, The Sport and Leisure Industry, Sport and Society and Exercise Prescription.

How will the course be taught?
You will attend lectures and seminars, take part in workshops and attend practical fitness sessions. The course will enable you to develop wider thinking and critical analysis through a combination of theory and practical lessons.
Every student has a personal tutor who will meet with their students on a regular basis to ensure they are making good progress. Tutors make sure that you receive regular feedback, can manage your workload and meet college expectations.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including written assignments, practical assessment and presentations. The course will be delivered through a mixture of workshops, taught sessions, lectures and independent learning. You will also receive a range of on-going feedback, these include regular 1-1 feedback sessions to assess the work, and determine a route personal to you, that will aid development.
Are there any additional costs?
There will be costs involved for uniform, any excursions and trips that may take place.
What course can I do next?
The final top up year can be completed at a university. A career in the Sport, Fitness or Leisure Industry may also start after completion of the course.
Completion of the course can lead to the Level 5 BTEC Higher National Diploma in Sport (Health, Fitness & Exercise) or employment within the Sport and Leisure Industry.
