Course Description

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop practical skills and knowledge in a wide range of bread, pastry, flour confectionery and cake decoration techniques

Who is the course suitable for?

Those who wish to further their culinary skills into the world of breads and pastries.

Course content

The qualification covers bakery skills in areas like: mixing, processing, baking, finishing and presenting bakery products. You will also cover fermented products like bread and pastries; flour confectionery e.g. cake and sponge products; sugar-based products e.g. meringues and celebration cakes; and chocolate craft.

Development of Maths and English

Students who have not yet achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements. At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D/3 in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C/4 grade at GCSE level.

Employability Skills Development

Your study programme will include employability skills development which includes Careers, support and guidance on progression opportunities. Students will be required to attend work experience and attend some evening and sessions in college for work based learning sessions.

How will the course be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced professionals who will use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you to learn and progress to the next level. There will be a large amount of practical assessments as well as theory lessons and written assignments.

How will I know how well I am doing?
