What will I learn?
The course provides an understanding from a range of disciplines under the public services umbrella with a strong emphasis on the employability. You will learn about the key components that relate to the roles and responsibilities of the public services, having an opportunity to be in public services scenarios to see how you would manage the situation. These principles are studied so that you gain an underpinning knowledge regarding the practical and theoretical aspects of the public services as a whole. The course as a whole aims to be holistic and provides you with the opportunity to learn from a range of disciplines from planning and management of major incidents to government policies.

This qualification is a combination of theory, practical work and on-going assessments in both real life and classroom based environments.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via practical, verbal, and course work based assessments that are on-going throughout the year and dependent upon the unit studied at that time.
What are the entry requirements?
Minimum age of 16 and a keen interest in Public Services. You must also have 4 GCSEs at grade A*- C inclusive of English and maths.
Is this the right course for me?
Would you like to progress onto University? Do you want a career within one of the Public Services? Would you like to be a physical training instructor or a naval officer in the future? Have you thought about a career as a police officer or a dog handler?
If you do well on this course then it will provide you with a big stepping stone towards these goals in the future. Much of the work conducted on the course provides a strong basis for going on to specialise in one of the many public services careers through hard work and dedication. If you have the right aptitude and enjoy striving for excellence then this course is the one for you.
What are the courses strong points?
The course is taught by a wide range of experts within the field including a tutor that spent 30 years in the Police Force and another with a degree in Leadership and Coaching and a background in Outdoor Activities.
This qualification provides you with the basis to progress onto University with solid foundations in place as well as having the opportunity to move directly into the world of work immediately after completing the course.
Good mixture of practical and theory.

Progression route / what jobs can it lead to?
Students can progress directly onto University if completing the two year Extended Diploma programme.
Students can add additional qualifications to make their application stronger within an ever increasing competitive job market if they wish.

Are there any additional costs?
Purchase of kit is compulsory. Some external visits will incur an additional cost, whilst these trips are recommended they are not compulsory.
