This qualification provides you with the basis to progress onto University with solid foundations in place as well as having the opportunity to move directly into the world of coaching immediately after completing the course. There is a good mixture of practical and theory.
This is a Level 2 course. The qualification gained will be BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport (60068206).
A keen interest in Sport and the Sports Industries as a whole. You must also have 4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above inclusive of English and maths.
Who is the course suitable for?

If you do well on this course then it will provide you with a big stepping stone towards these goals in the future. Much of the work conducted on the course provides a strong basis for going on to specialise in one of the many sports science or coaching disciplines through hard work and dedication. If you have the right aptitude and enjoy striving for excellence then this course is the one for you.
The course provides a scientific understanding from a range of disciplines under the sports umbrella with a strong emphasis on the human body. You will learn about the key components that relate to the scientific principles of sport that are inclusive of anatomy and physiology, sports and exercise psychology and field based fitness tests. These principles are studied so that you gain an underpinning knowledge regarding the practical aspects of sports and exercise, including training, fitness assessment and elite level performance. The course as a whole aims to be holistic and provides you with the opportunity to learn from a range of disciplines from sports coaching to Current Issues in Sport.
How will the course be taught?
This qualification is a combination of theory, practical work and on-going assessments in both real life and classroom based environments.
The course will be taught at Kingsway Campus, Dunstable.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will be assessed via practical, verbal, and course work based assessments that are on-going throughout the year and dependent upon the unit studied at that time.

Purchase of kit is compulsory.
What course can I do next?
Students can add additional qualifications to make their application all the more stronger within an ever increasing competitive job market if they wish to become a Coach or Fitness Instructor by having solid foundations in place to facilitate employability within the industry. Progression is possible to a Level 3 qualification.
