What will I learn?

The course provides a good understanding from a range of disciplines under the public services umbrella with a strong emphasis on the working skills and personal fitness. You will learn about the key components that relate to the roles and responsibilities of the different public services and the requirements of each job role. There will also be a focus on your ability to be part of a team and to communicate with colleagues. These principles are studied so that you gain an underpinning knowledge regarding the job roles of the public services, including careers that the public do not normally see or consider. The course as a whole aims to be holistic and provides you with the opportunity to learn from a range of disciplines from security procedures to sport and recreational activities.

This qualification is a combination of theory, practical work and on-going assessments in both real life and classroom based environments.

You will be assessed via practical, verbal, and course work based assessments that are on-going throughout the year and dependent upon the unit studied at that time.

If you do well on this course then it will provide you with a stepping stone towards these goals in the future. Much of the work conducted on the course provides a strong basis for progression on to a Level 3 qualification and then onto specialise in one of the many public services careers through hard work and dedication. Students should add additional qualifications to make their application stronger within an ever increasing competitive job market if they wish to become a public services employee, but this course will aid with application processes, especially for part-time or voluntary roles. Progression is possible to a Level 3 qualification.

Purchase of kit is compulsory. Some external trips will carry an additional cost, but these trips are non-compulsory
