Course Description

The course provides a basic understanding from a range of disciplines under the sports umbrella with a strong emphasis on teamwork and nutrition. The course as a whole aims to be holistic and provides you with the opportunity to learn from a range of disciplines from sports coaching to Current Issues in Sport.

The qualification gained will be BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure (50064952).

Who is the course suitable for?

Would you like to progress onto University? Do you want a career within elite/amateur level sport? Would you like to be a coach or Sports Development officer in the future? Have you thought about a career as a sports psychologist or a sports physiologist within elite level sport?

If you do well on this course then it will provide you with a big stepping stone towards these goals in the future. Much of the work conducted on the course provides a strong basis for going on to specialise in one of the many sports science or coaching disciplines through hard work and dedication. If you have the right aptitude and enjoy striving for excellence then this course is the one for you.

How will the course be taught?

This qualification is a combination of theory, practical work and on-going assessments in both real life and classroom based environments.

The course will be taught at The Store, Kingsway Campus in Dunstable.

How will I know how well I am doing?

You will be assessed via practical, verbal, and course work based assessments that are on-going throughout the year and dependent upon the unit studied at that time.

Are there any additional costs?

Purchase of kit is compulsory.

What course can I do next?

Students can add additional qualifications to make their application all the more stronger within an ever increasing competitive job market if they wish to become a Coach or Fitness Instructor by having solid foundations in place to facilitate employability within the industry. Progression is possible to a Level 2 qualification.
