Course Description

The course provides a basic understanding from a range of disciplines under the public services umbrella with a strong emphasis on teamwork and employment. The course as a whole aims to be holistic and provides you with the opportunity to learn from a range of disciplines from fitness and entry requirements to stop and search procedures.

Who is the course suitable for?

Do you want a career within a public services? Would you like to be in the army or the police force in the future? Have you thought about a career as a physical training instructor or a dog handler? If you do well on this course then it will provide you with a stepping stone towards these goals in the future by enabling you to progress onto further levels of education. If you have the right aptitude and enjoy striving for excellence then this course is the one for you.

Development of Maths and English

Students who have not yet achieved at least a C grade in English and Maths will have to continue taking these subjects up to the age of 18, as per government requirements. At Central Bedfordshire College Students who have a D in GCSE Maths and English will be required to retake these GCSE subjects in order to obtain at least a C grade at GCSE level. Students who have achieved GCSE A – C Grade in English and Maths will be expected to develop their skills further completing a applied English and/or Maths project.

How will the course be taught?

This qualification is a combination of theory, practical work and on-going assessments in both real life and classroom based environments

How will I know how well I am doing?

You will be assessed via practical, verbal, and course work based assessments that are on-going throughout the year and dependent upon the unit studied at that time.

Are there any additional costs?

Purchase of kit is compulsory. There will also be some costs for external trips, but these are non-compulsory.

What course can I do next?

Progression is possible to a Level 2 Public Services or Sport qualification

Course Fees

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31st August of the year you begin your course or if you are actively seeking employment and can provide evidence that you’re in receipt of a state benefit e.g. job seekers, housing benefit – this course may be free!
