Central Bedfordshire College | Courses in Luton, Dunstable and Bedfordshire - Items filtered by date: July 2017

Central Bedfordshire College Principal Ali Hadawi CBE, proudly showcased the College’s most outstanding students at its annual Student Awards Ceremony 2017, held at the main campus in Dunstable yesterday afternoon.

Over 25 students were selected to receive awards in this special event attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Dunstable, the Mayor of Houghton Regis, The Mayor & Mayoress of Luton along with key employers, representatives from Central Beds Council, staff and of course a room full of very proud family and friends.

HNC Photography student Kelly Marshall aged 37 from Dunstable, was awarded a prize for her meticulous attention to detail, constantly pushing herself to achieve perfection and her unwavering commitment to her course whilst balancing family responbilites.

Enthusiastic Science student Francis Ibarrientos aged 19 from Luton, has achieved 100% attendance across the two years of his course and whose highly organised nature has seen him achieve three starred Distinctions, the highest possible grading, as well as an additional 50 UCAS points for his extended project. Francis will go on to study Astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire.

Hairdressing student Chloe Rackley aged 17 from Dunstable, has also impressed her tutors by not only having excellent attendance and behaviour but by motivating herself and her peers. Chloe has shown a real flare for Hairdressing and has passed this year at a very high standard.

Pathways student Peter Simpkins has been with the College for 5 years and when he started he needed 1:1 support to enable him to access the curriculum and all aspects of college life. He now volunteers in the coffee shop in the evenings and has been cleaning the refectory once a week as part of his work experience. Peter is now leaving College to continue towards his own aspiration of getting paid employment by joining supported employment services. He will have a supported work placement to begin with and then will work independently once he has learnt the routines.

Mr Hadawi, who opened the event with a keynote speech, highlighted not only the students’ achievements but also the outstanding year for the College which has included accolades on locally, nationally and internationally: “It is important for us to acknowledge the achievements of our students who go beyond expectations to achieve the very best for their future.” He continued: “I am proud that as a college we are able to provide students with such a progressive and harmonious environment, supported by outstanding teachers, in facilities that foster the development of the high level skills and knowledge that employers and universities want.”

The event was held in the College’s student run restaurant where parents and dignitaries were treated to a full afternoon tea prepared and served by the College’s Catering & Hospitality students.
