The Appeals Process

If you are unhappy with your grade and would like to appeal it, please see below the process to appeal your grade.

APPEALS against a grade awarded guidance and form for students

Guide for Students

If you are unhappy with your assessment result there are two possible levels for this procedure:

  • one involving students and the College (internally assessed units)
  • one involving the College and the exam board (externally assessed units)

How to appeal against a result from an EXTERNALLY ASSESSED UNIT

Any student wishing to appeal against their exam result which has been assessed and issued by an Examination Board must do so through the College’s Exams Office. All communication with the Exam Board must occur through the College Examinations Officer on behalf of the student(s).

Information about how to do this will be sent to the student with all external examination results by the College. Information and forms can also be found on the college website and will also be available from the Information Centre / Exams Office. The completed form and the relevant fee should be submitted to the Exams Office by the published deadline date. The time limit for this service is normally 4 weeks after the publication of results.

If the appeal is upheld and the overall grade amended the fee will be refunded in full. Please note that marks can also be downgraded. If a remark of a unit does not put up the overall provisional grade, a refund will not be available.

The result of the appeal will be communicated by the Board to the College together with any amended documentation, where appropriate, usually within two months of receipt. The College will then inform the student.

Managing exam stress element:

It is appropriate to feel some anxiety around exams, as with other important events in life. Nervous tension serves to motivate and focus attention keeping the mind alert. Exam stress becomes a problem if it interferes with the ability to prepare for and perform in exams - too much anxiety can block clear creative thinking, create a negative mind-set and lead to panic.
