The Bedford College Group has an experienced team of Student Service advisers

Our Student Services team can offer guidance and support on a wide range of financial, personal and career-related issues and help make your College experience a happy and successful one. We are proud to have earned the Matrix Standard award, which means that the professional guidance and support we offer is of the highest quality.

Careers Advice

Whatever your age, if you are unsure about your career or confused about which course you should do, then our Student Services coordinators can help you decide what the right path is for you – even before you join one of our Colleges. They will then be there throughout your course if you need them.

Student Services coordinators are experts in their field and are trained to Level 6 in Careers, Advice and Guidance.

Personal Support

We are committed to providing high quality information, advice and guidance to help you make the most of your time with us. We know that there are lots of things which can get in the way of your learning, such as money worries or personal problems, and the help and support we offer do not stop once you leave the classroom or workshop. There is a team of 34  Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) across the college group.

We also know how important it is progress successfully onto your next step after College, and want to give you the best possible start in your chosen career.

Our Student Services team has been awarded the Matrix standard, which proves that the professional advice and guidance we provide is of the highest quality. Whatever the query, issue or problem, please feel free to ask a member of Student Services staff – they will always be happy to help!

Counselling

We understand that coming to College can be a daunting experience, whether you are leaving school or returning to education. We all have personal problems from time to time and if you are feeling down or stressed, you can talk to Student Services whenever you need to. They will be able to provide you with a counsellor from our dedicated Counselling Service, who will listen to your concerns, no matter what they are. Our counsellors are trained to give advice on all kinds of issues, including:

  • academic difficulties
  • alcohol and drug problems
  • bereavement
  • bullying
  • depression, panic and anxiety
  • difficulties fitting in
  • domestic violence
  • eating problems
  • financial hardship
  • relationship problems
  • self-harm
  • stress
  • unplanned pregnancy.

Personal Achievement Tutors

As a student with The Bedford College Group you will be assigned a professionally trained Personal Achievement Tutor when you start your course who will give you continual, one-on-one support throughout your time with us – from regular tutorials that give you the opportunity to discuss your College work face-to-face, to help with personal development including producing an individual learning plan, tailored to your future aspirations. You will also meet your tutor together with the other students in your tutor group to keep you informed of everything going on at the College or to work on group issues such as career planning skills.
