Will the course give me what I want?
This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. Learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification.
The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the Department for Educations (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce. You will be required to undertake 250 hours of work placement, this will be part of your timetable.

How will I learn?
Learning will be a mixture of classroom-based activities and theory which will give you knowledge required to successfully become an early years practitioner, you will also gain the skills required to work in the early years sector during work place experience in an early years setting.
How will I be assessed?
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.
Equipment and other costs
You will need to bring stationary such as pens, pencils and note paper. Textbooks and polo shirts are available at an additional cost.
What additional work outside of college will I need to do?
You will be required to complete assignments independently.
Do I need to find a work placement? Do I need a DBS?
You will need to be volunteering or on practical placement in an early years setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You must complete 250 placement hours whilst undertaking this qualification. A full enhanced DBS is required for work placement.
What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed onto?
This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care or enter the work place as a level 2 qualified practitioner.
What are the expected employment sectors for this course?
This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce. Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as: nursery practitioner classroom assistant pre-school practitioner.
