Course content
You will be able to depending on which path you follow either, graphics, animation or photography you will have the chance to cover a range of topics that are of interest to you. The diploma aims to develop students understanding and application of visual language and the creative process, enabling students to develop creative ideas and produce creative outcomes. Within this qualification you will be able to explore different medias in order to create visually pleasing outcomes all within either graphics, animation or photography. You can enjoy the use of a professional setting within our photographic studio, the joys of mark making and art work along with the complexity of creating characters within animation. You will be taught on a range of different softwares relevant to your chosen pathway in which you will become masters at. We complete each year with an end of year show in which you will exhibit your work to a wider audience here at The Store.

How will I learn?
You will be learning from hands on experience both in the studio and via group tasks. You will learn through the use of tutor and student led tutorials along with workshops where you will learn about the history of photography and the techniques within this area.
How will I be assessed?
You will learn through a variety of different methods including the use of multiple softwares that are used in industry, different assignment types allow for student exploration of topics to help widen their understanding and creativity.
Equipment and other costs
You will need a laptop/computer in order to work from home where needed, however we do have equipment here you can use in your spare time. You will need a USB/Hard drive to store you work digitally. Photography equipment can be rented from the college free of charge.
What additional work outside of college will I need to do?
Students will be expected to keep up with their studies and meet the deadlines set, this is up to students to manage their time effectively.
Do I need to find a work placement? Do I need a DBS?
No, you will not need to find work placement although we encourage learners to gain some work experience wherever possible.
What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed onto?
Students on this course often progress onto the second year of level 3 photography and complete both years gaining their extending diploma. They then progress onto either University or an apprenticeship.
What are the expected employment sectors for this course?
You can expect to be employed within the photographic sector or the creative industries sector specialising in an area of your choice.
