Course Overview

This qualification is taught over 2 years and is great for learners aged 16-18 years old with limited knowledge and an interest in production or maintenance engineering. No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required for learners undertaking the qualification, however, it is expected that you should have sufficient levels of numeracy and literacy to be able to satisfactorily complete the course.

We have high professional standards and expectations of our learners and expect excellent attendance, punctuality and the wearing of PPE to ensure you thrive on your course!

This course includes online exams and ongoing practical assessments. Lessons can consist of theory, discussions, online tests and individual and group practical tasks.

Areas of study could include: Working in Engineering Carrying out basic fitting techniques Carrying out basic milling techniques Carrying out basic turning techniques Carrying out mechanical assembly Principles of Engineering technology Principles of manufacturing technology Using bench fitting techniques

In order to pass this course you will need to pass required exams and assessments.

What options are there after completing this course?

Upon completing your course you can progress onto the level 3 course in Engineering.

Coming to College is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to College and potentially to a local work placement. If you are concerned about this, please click here to see what financial support is available through our Student Services team.

You will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of PPE and this must be purchased for the start of the course. PPE consists of - safety boots, work trousers or overalls. Pens, notepad, A4 lever arch file and PPE are essential purchases. We may request contributions are made to trips and outings.

Your course will be taught at our Luton Road campus and some sessions may take place at out main site in Kingsway.
