Will the course give me what I want?
This course is designed for adults who wish to improve their English skills for work or for social purposes. It will also build confidence and social skills.
Course content
The course will cover the four basic skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Employability skills will be embedded into the course.
Location
The course will take place once a week. The courses are run in local venues that currently include: The Dallow Road Community Centre, Whipperley Infants School and St Matthews School.
How will I learn?
A variety of teaching styles will be used. Each term will focus on one language skill specifically (reading, speaking and listening, writing). A variety of interesting resources will be used with differentiation.
How will I be assessed?
Task controlled exam testing will take place, as well as teacher observation. Students will achieve qualifications.
Equipment and other costs
Students will be expected to bring, pens, pencils, a notebook and a file. These are essential items. Students are welcome to bring anything extra that will help them.
What additional work outside of college will I need to do?
Students are expected to complete homework and any tasks set by the tutor.
Do I need to find a work placement? Do I need a DBS?
Students do not need to find a work placement for this course. Any convictions need to be stated clearly on the initial application form.

Students have progressed onto other courses such as childcare, TA courses and many others. Students have entered employment and voluntary work.
What are the expected employment sectors for this course?
This course improves English skills, therefore it is suitable for any work sector. Proficient English skills are needed for all work sectors.
