Will the course give me what I want?
The VTCT Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector is a qualification that has been specifically designed to enable you to learn both aspects of basic hairdressing, beauty and media make-up. The qualification will give you some basic knowledge on how to apply makeup, perform beauty treatments and style hair.
This course will give you an introduction to several different aspects of working in the hair and beauty sector. The units that you will cover are Temporary Hair Colour, Retail Displays, Health and Safety, Hand Care, Skin Care, Shampoo and Conditioning, Styling Hair, Make-up Application, Hair Plaiting.
All lessons take place at the main Kingsway campus in Dunstable
How will I learn?
You will learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions, which will take place in our modern salons.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of methods for each unit. There are 2 exams on the course, these are multiple choice on a computer. Within each unit you will complete written tasks, and complete a set number of practical assessments.
Equipment and other costs
You will need to purchase a kit, which costs £286. This will be used in all of your practical sessions, and is yours to keep at the end of the course. You will also be required to purchase a t-shirt (£10.50) and to wear suitable black trousers and black shoes for each lesson. We have a uniform shop which also contains a lot of optional items, you will be provided a link for this at the beginning of your course.
What additional work outside of college will I need to do?
You will be given short tasks to complete each week, which form the basis for your coursework.
Do I need to find a work placement? Do I need a DBS?
No, there is no work placement attached, but we will give opportunities throughout the course to put yourself into a real world scenario.
