Is this course right for me?
This course is a great option if you are looking to develop your English skills and gain a Functional Skills qualification at entry level, level 1, or level 2.
This course is for those who wish to improve or develop their existing English reading and writing skills, and gain qualifications nationally recognised by employers and training providers. These skills will help you to build your knowledge and understanding of English, and will also enable you to improve essential key skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the English language.
We will ask you to complete an online skills assessment as part of the application process to help us understand and improve your current skills, this will also ensure you are placed on the course level that suits you.
Your areas of study will include: Speaking, listening and communication Reading skills Writing skills
These three key skill areas progressively develop in complexity and sophistication as you progress through the three Levels. Clear learning aims and objectives within the course help you to understand and achieve your individual learning and development goals.
This course is offered on the following days and times: Tuesday evenings from 6pm 9pm Wednesday mornings from 11am 2pm Wednesday evenings from 6pm - 9pm Saturday mornings from 9.30am - 12.30pm
Courses commence in September and April.
Your assessments throughout this course will keep you on track to achieve; monitored individual assessments and feedback on your progression continues throughout your course. As the course progresses, past papers and practice examination sessions help you to develop exam techniques. Your Tutor will be on hand to support you throughout your course to develop your skills, prepare you for your next steps and help you to achieve your goals.

You will have a regular 1:1 appointment with highly qualified and experienced professionals who will help you to manage your workload, give you valuable feedback and ensure that you meet College expectations. Careers Advice & Guidance is available throughout your time at CBC from our friendly, dedicated Advisors. They can provide you with a wide range of support including CV writing, UCAS applications, interview skills and much more.
What options are there after completing this course?
Upon completing your course, you have a great range of options available to help you continue your adventure, upon successful completion of this course you will be enabled to progress to GCSE English courses.
Coming to College is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost of travelling to College. There are no additional kit requirements for this course our dedicated Learning Resource Centre can provide you with access to a wide range of resources to assist in your studies.
