If you would like to know the basic maintenance required for your car? here you can learn in our state-of-the-art garage working on real cars. You'll gain the technical skills and knowledge required for basic maintenance.

Course Overview

This course will suit you if you have a keen interest in knowing the basic maintenance requirements for your vehicle. It will be taught 1 evening per week 6pm - 9pm at the Luton Road Campus. We have high professional standards and expectations of our learners and expect excellent attendance, punctuality and the wearing of PPE to ensure you thrive on your course - PPE consists of overalls or work trousers and steel toe capped boots.

Lessons can consist of lectures, discussions, independent research and individual and group practical tasks.

Areas of study could include:

  • Introduction to vehicle engine
  • Check and change a wheel
  • Check and change bulbs
  • Check your windscreen wash
  • Keep an eye on your tyres
  • Top up your engine oil
  • Keep your battery in check
  • Check if your car is due a service
  • Top up your cooling system liquid
  • Check your horn
  • Take a look at your exhaust

In order to pass this course you will need to pass required assessments.

Your Tutor will be on hand to support you throughout your course to develop your skills, prepare you for your next steps and help you to achieve your goals.

What options are there after completing this course?

Upon completing your course, you can progress onto the 2 year level 2 Motor Vehicle Course.

Additional information

Coming to College is a full time commitment and you will need to ensure that you have factored in the cost and time of travelling to College. Your course will be taught at the Motor Vehicle Luton Road Campus but may be required to travel to our main campus in Kingsway, Dunstable for some sessions.
