Is this course right for me?
The Gateway to Learning course is designed for those who do not feel ready to access a mainstream course elsewhere within the college and require a specialist curriculum to meet their individual needs and prepare them for their next step. Learners must have a willingness to engage in education and attend all parts of their study programme including appropriate maths and English sessions.
Course Overview
The aim of the programme is to support learners with moderate learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties and/ or social emotional and mental health difficulties, to progress into employment, higher level courses within the mainstream college and/or independent living. Learners will be supported by experienced staff who will help learners to take responsibility for what they do in order to improve their life choices, achieve greater independence, future employment and progression to other courses. Where appropriate we will support learners to attend some vocational taster sessions which will help them to make better decisions about their future. Learners on this course will take part in a variety of activities to support development of transferable skills
Learners attend College for three days each week, 9am - 4pm. Group sizes are usually around to eight learners
What options are there after completing this course?
As in all courses in College, there is a focus on progression and the course aims to prepare for their next step whether this is a further course at Central Beds College within the mainstream provision or join one of our employment pathways. Dependent on student meeting entry requirements
