5 GCSE 9-4 or A-C grades (including English and Maths*) or A Distinction in a relevant Level 2 Diploma and a C in GCSE English and Maths* If you do not meet these entry requirements please ask about our Level 2 programmes. *Exception: If you have a D in English we will still consider you for Level 3, but you will be required to retake the exam alongside the main programme.

If you enjoy Science but don’t feel A Levels are right for you, then our Applied Science courses could be the perfect way to continue your studies in a subject you love in a more vocational environment.

Course Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science is a nationally recognised qualification that will give you a greater depth of understanding across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Forensic Science. This programme will equip you with the skills, knowledge, attitude and values required to work towards a successful career in Applied Science.

The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-levels. You will take the 90-Credit Certificate in the first year and complete the Extended Diploma in Year 2.

The course is laboratory based and you will develop skills and techniques to carry out experiments and analyse results.

Your areas of study will include: • Cell structure • Immunology and disease • Body systems and reproduction • Biochemistry • Gene technology • Organic and inorganic processes and reactions • Atomic structure • Bonding • Rates of reaction • Enthalpy and entrophy • Eletrical circuits and energy • Sources of energy • Medical physics including ultrasound, diagnostic imaging and magnetic resonance imaging • Astronomy and Cosmology • Maths including statistics and trigonometry

Your Tutor will be on hand to support you throughout your course to develop your skills, prepare you for your next steps and help you to achieve your goals.

Your Study Programme includes valuable additions to help you succeed! • Personal Professional Development sessions (PPD) will teach you valuable skills that employers are looking for including communication, time management and life skills that you can take with you anywhere you go! • You will have a regular 1:1 appointment with highly qualified and experienced professionals who will help you to manage your workload, give you valuable feedback and ensure that you meet College expectations. • English & Maths: You may not be sure whether these subjects are relevant to you, but good English and Maths skills will be vital to any career path and we’re here to support you in developing yours.
• Work Experience is crucial to preparing you for your next steps and here you will have access to a wide range of employers to make sure you gain plenty of workplace experience. • Careers Advice & Guidance is available throughout your time at CBC from our friendly, dedicated Advisors. They can provide you with a wide range of support including CV writing, UCAS applications, interview skills and much more.

What options are there after completing this course?
